The Taste Trip: How to Travel Through your Tastebuds During Lockdown
A global food pack is available in Montreal with either snacks or ingredients from around the world to fulfill your wanderlust.
Montreal, Canada, Feburary 6, 2021 โ Creative entrepreneur, travel writer and illustrator, Carla Bragagnini, was travelling and working online as a digital abroad before having to Canada due to the pandemic.
"For now, it is what it is, but like so many people, Iโm looking forward to future adventures," said Carla. "So I started a project hoping to spread travel inspiration during lockdown."
"I think travel is exciting because it allows us to try new things, have new experiences and get out of our comfort zones. I wanted to find a way to use those same elements to keep people feeling inspired somehow, especially since the idea of travel has been linked to positive effects on mental health. And that's something beneficial right now in the middle of winter and in the middle of a pandemic.โ
So she recently launched The Taste Trip. She was inspired by the idea of subscription boxes. She has carefully-curated two travel food packs for Montrealers โ a global snack pack and a global ingredients pack. Each pack has items from 7-10 countries (or more). But what you will get and from where โ that is a complete mystery. Each month, the items will change.
โI love the element of surprise when you're travelling. You never know what you're going to get. And it's the same with these travel food packs, the items are a complete mystery, so you don't know what you will get until you receive and open the pack.โ
The idea is to make your curfew Netflix nights more interesting with international snacks or inspire cooking adventures with new ingredients from around the world. You might love some things and others maybe not so much - that's part of the fun. But no matter what, The Taste Trip promises, you will always get to try something new. Each pack comes with a beautifully-illustrated passport/travel guide with information about the places the foods are from, to enhance your โtravelโ experience. โWriting and illustrating about exotic places during lockdown has been very therapeutic for me and I hope people find similar inspiration from them,โ Carla says.
Host a tasting tour with friends via Zoom, teach geography to your kids in a fun way, order for a loved one as a pandemic pick-me-up or order for yourself to get outside of your comfort zone.
The packs can be ordered at www.thetastetrip.com and the project's Instagram is www.instagram.com/the.taste.trip. The packs are available for contactless pick-up every Saturday in the Mile End. The packs are always dairy-free and vegan-friendly.
